*Fall/Winter Contra Dance Schedule*
During fall, winter and spring we dance (mostly) on the second Friday evening of each month. In summer months we dance one Saturday evening of each month; the annual summer potluck is held before the July dance.
Friday, November 11 -- Columbus' own Jan Phillips will call. Fine old-time music provided by Three Rivers String Band.
Friday, December 9 -- Margaret Goodman of Yellow Springs will be our caller-with-style, and the Timbre Wolves of Columbus will play fine old-time music for us.
Friday, January 13 -- Back Porch Swing Band returns to high acclaim ! and our own Dave Notman will call a blend of creative contras and at least one really great square to match the band's tunes!
Friday, February 10 -- Beth Mast, shining star caller from Dayton, will be accompanied by The Pegheads, talented old-time musicians invoking memories of Turkeys in the Straw, founders of contra dancing in Columbus in the 1980s.
Friday, March 10 -- Corn in the Mornin', a hot young old time band from Columbus, will be joined by Columbus caller Richard Ades. What a match!
All Soles Contra Dances are sponsored by First Unitarian Universalist Church, and attract from between 40 to 90 dancers of varying experience and skill levels -- new dancers are ALWAYS welcomed. Contra dance is a highly social and connecting form of early American folk dance in which partners change frequently, no special dress is required (but wear lightweight clothing since things will heat up!). Please wear clean, non-marking shoes to protect the wooden dance floor. Almost all ages can learn. It is said about a contra dance that by the end of the evening, you will have danced with everyone in the room!
No partner is required, and all dances will be taught -- no special dance skill or background needed.
