The First UU Atheist, Agnostic, Skeptics Circle started as a 2-hour discussion on a wintry Saturday morning in 2009. The topic was “On being Atheist or Agnostic in 21st Century America, and a lot of personal stories were shared. As a result, all of the attendees agreed that they wanted to continue to meet as a support group. In the intervening 5 years we've:

  • seen membership in the group expand to 70+ (including several members from the Reynoldsburg UU Fellowship)
  • read and discussed an extensive body of writings by famous atheists and humanists (modern as well as ancient)
  • worked to define ourselves, not by what we aren't, but by the positive values we share
  • looked for ways to reach out and serve the community; for the past 2 years, First UU has hosted a “Flying Spaghetti Monster” dinner and auction to support the Beechworld-Clintonville Community Resource Center
  • reorganized ourselves and put in place a new structure for monthly meetings which includes exciting programming to attract a broad audience

This is a monthly open discussion forum focusing on topics of interest to atheists and agnostics within the community.  We have a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/First-UU-Atheists-Agnostics-and-Skeptics/189806467866809.  We are also an official member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason (www.columbuscor.org)
