Welcome to the new, expanded music program at First UU Church of Columbus. After the retirement of our longtime, beloved choir director Les Kleen and pianist/accompanist Myra Hine in spring, 2006, the church underwent a complete review of the music program. It was a time to pause and take a look at what was ideally wanted and needed in the musical life of this growing church now and how that could be realized.
The congregation was surveyed, with more than 200 respondents, asking about what musical ensembles, activities and programs we should have. Interim choir director Kim Boyd and accompanist Wade Jones were hired. A Search Committee was formed to find a permanent music staff.
By fall, 2007, the Search Committee had completed its work and the new program was in place. As a result, First UU Church of Columbus now proudly has two adult choirs (First UU Choir and Spirit of Life Choir) and two youth choirs (Peace Pals and Youth Choir), plus a Music Director to oversee the entire program and develop special musical events.
