Big Box Swindle, the True Cost of Mega-Retailers and the Fight for America's Independent Businesses, by Stacy Mitchell and the Institute for Self-Reliance - traces the dramatic growth of mega-retailers -- Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Starbucks, Old Navy -- and the decline of independent businesses.

Gangs of America - The Rise of Corporate Power and the Disabling of Democracy, by Ted Nace describes the history of corporations and the expansion of corporate power. Unequal Protection: The rise of corporate dominance and theft of human rights, by Thom Hartman is an excellent book on Corporate Personhood. The web site also has many links to other resources for learning about corporate dominance. Citizens Over Corporations, A Brief History of Democracy in Ohio and Challenges to Freedom in the Future, by Greg Coleridge is a pamphlet describing how corporations were controlled in the early days of the state and how that has now changed. The pamphlet is published by the Ohio Committee on Corporations, Law and Democracy, sponsored by the Northeast Ohio American Friends Service Committee. Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, by John Perkins is a book in which Perkins defines our current system of government as a "corporatocracy" and explains how horrible programs by our government and the World Bank are rationalized and legally permitted.

Overruling Democracy, by Jamin Raskin - Law Professor Jamin Raskin explores how the Constitution has been turned against citizens and justice in recent history and explores constitutional solutions to the Supreme Court's actions

When Corporations Rule the World, by David Korten - A thorough, well-reasoned, and accessible analysis of the global corporate and financial system from an insider in the financial world.

The Post-Corporate World: Life after Capitalism, by David Korten.

We the People – A Call to Take Back America, by Thom Hartmann – A cartoon format, with a very clear and complete description of the history and implications of corporate persons and a description of actions possible to reverse it.

The Best Democracy Money Can Buy: The Truth About Corporate Cons, Globalization, and High-Finance Fraudsters, by Greg Palast

The People's Business -- Controlling Corporations and Restoring Democracy by Lee Drutman and Charlie Cray provides proposals for taking our country back from corporate rule. More info on the book web page or the Citizen Works web site.

The Many-headed Hydra: Sailors, Slaves, Commoners, and the Hidden History of the Revolutionary Atlantic by Peter Linebaugh and Marcus Buford Rediker looks at the history of capitalism and globalism going back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The title comes from one of the labors of Hercules to slay the hydra, a beast with many heads. Historically, each time the ruling class conquered one group of rebellious subjects, another would spring up somewhere else.

Defying Corporations, Defining Democracy: A Book of History and Strategy edited by Dean Ritz is a collection of articles, essays, speeches, etc. from the activists who form the Program on Corporations, Law and Democracy (POCLAD). More info on the book web page.
