Friday, October 13, 7:00 p.m., First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 West Weisheimer

CIRCA (Citizens Intent on Reforming Corporate Accountability) is hosting David Korten, writer and economist, who will be in Columbus October 12 – 14 to share his exciting proposals for changing the direction our society and the human race is taking.  His most recent book is The Great Turning – from Empire to Earth Community.  He suggests that for the past 5,000 years we have been living with a "Dominator" model under which a few at the top acquire great wealth and rule the huge majority that lives in poverty.  We do not need to accept this as our unavoidable fate.  A "Great Turning" is underway in which people at the grass roots all around the world are taking control of their own power and creating positive change.  Korten shows us how we can join this process and make it happen.  Presentation followed by question and answer period. More information on David Korten and The Great Turning. David Korten will participate in other events listed in the Korten visit schedule.

Earth Charter Community Summit LogoEarth Charter Central Ohio, The Interfaith Association of Central Ohio and the Columbus Grassroots Congress will sponsor its annual Earth Charter Community Summit on Saturday, October 14, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  This year's theme is "Creating Earth Community."  Our keynote speaker is David Korten, author of "The Great Turning -- From Empire to Earth Community."  This is an opportunity for folk in Central Ohio to begin an honest dialogue on our mutual responsibilities to one another and everything around us.  This is an opportunity to abandon apathy and move to action. More information on David Korten and The Great Turning.

The Earth Charter is a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society in the 21st century.  It seeks to inspire in all people a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the human family and the larger living world.  It is an expression of hope and a call to help create a global partnership at a critical juncture in history.

The mission of the Earth Charter Central Ohio (ECCO) is to contribute to the Earth Charter USA Campaign by educating others about the values and principles of the Earth Charter.  We will support the Earth Charter USA Campaign through organizing and coordinating efforts of awareness of the charter and its principles and/or supporting and endorsing policies that speak to the principles of the charter.  We will encourage organizations, institutions, and individuals to embrace the principles of the charter.  ECCO plans to hold annual community summits on the Earth Charter and its principles until it has been adopted.
