Improving our Presentation and Presenting it

We are working on improving our presentation on corporate accountability. We are adding specific actions that people can take to help reform corporations. We also want to provide examples of the effect of corporate power on our daily lives.

We are also looking for places to present our presentation. We are looking for like-minded groups, progressive church organizations, college classes or other possibilities.

What is CIRCA?

Citizens Intent on Reforming Corporate Accountability (CIRCA) is a grassroots organization whose website and meetings are hosted by the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus, Ohio. We are dedicated to

  • ending corporate control of American economic and political life
  • restoring real democracy — enabling human beings to control their lives by eliminating Corporate Personhood

To accomplish these ends, we provide information and education on Corporate Personhood. If you would like more information, or if you would like for us to make a presentation to your organization, please contact us.

You can see some of our activities, including upcoming presentations here.

CIRCA Meetings

The next meeting will be on December 16, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus, Ohio, 93 W. Weisheimer. Subsequent meetings in 2008 will be January 20, February 17, and March 16 at the same time and place.

More about our previous and ongoing actions.

What is Corporate Personhood?

A questionable interpretation of an 1886 Supreme Court decision has led to corporations claiming constitutional rights as if they were living persons. They have claimed

  • 1st Amendment free speech rights
  • 4th Amendment protection against search and seizure
  • 5th Amendment protection against self-incrimination
  • 14th Amendment guarantees of equal protection
