Four Justice Areas to Choose from PDF Print E-mail

jam-new-logo2

At the midyear congregational meeting on Feb 5, our Justice Action Ministry (JAM) will present a slate of four justice areas. Out of the four, the congregation will vote for two to focus on during the next two years. These will be in addition to our commitments to BREAD and UUSC. Please note the selection is intended for the purpose of pooling together our time and effort. Individuals are encouraged to work on the justice area of their choice, whether it is one of the chosen two or not. The four justice areas are (in alphabetical order) Interfaith work, LGBT Equality, Poverty Alleviation, and Women's Health including reproductive choice. Here are brief summaries of these great avenues for faith in action:

Immigrant Voices: Creating a New History Through Spoken Word PDF Print E-mail

March 9, 7-9:30 pm, Worship Center

Registration Required

Paula Cole Jones, a national leader in multi-cultural ministries joins us for a very special evening. Often the voices of the marginalized are silent in telling their own history. Demographics can be mere statistics absent these voices. Together those gathered will give voice to immigrant's own words, as captured in Jones' book Encounters: poems about race, ethnicity and identity. It helps us enmesh ourselves in the truth, beyond the statistics. The words of immigrants shift our perception of history and a new reality emerges.
