The Aurora Institute is a Canadian organization that conducts research and provides education on the structure of the corporation as a cause of the political, social, economic and environmental symptoms we face in modern society. More information at the Aurora Institute Web site.

BioDemocracy Alliance

Voters in Mendocino County, California on March 2, 2004 banned the production of genetically engineered crops and animals. Mendocino is the first county in the US to implement such a ban. The BioDemocracy Alliance site has sample ordinances for creating a GE-Free zone.

Citizen Works provides information on corporate reform and corporate greed, along with tools for taking action. More information at the Citizen Works Web site.

Common Cause provides a vehicle for citizens to make their voices heard in the political process and to hold their elected leaders accountable to the public interest. More information at their Web site.

Government Accountability Project (GAP) at whistleblower.org promotes government and corporate accountability by, among other things, protecting and defending whistleblowers.

Independent Media TV provides an independent outlet for views and artistic expression that are not presented by the current corporate media monopoly. They have an interesting column on corporate media brainwashing. More information at their Web site.

The New Rules Project is designing rules as if communitiy matters. The project has several key projects and initiatives: The Hometown Advantage is dedicated to reviving locally owned business. They provide information on Wal-Mart's Bait and Switch on Generic Drugs.  The Equity Sector highlights communities accepting responsibility for their citizens.

Partnership for Civil Justice works to defend Democracy and Civil Rights in the courts and in the streets.

Positive Futures Network is an independent, nonprofit organization supporting people’s active engagement in creating a just, sustainable, and compassionate world. They publish Yes Magazine. More information on the Positive Futures Network is available at the Yes Magazine Web site.

The State Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs) at www.pirg.org are a network of independent, state-based organizations working to support campaign finance reform and foster a responsive democratic government.

The Apollo Alliance for Good Jobs and Clean Energy at apolloalliance.org "provides a message of optimism and hope, framed around rejuvenating our nation’s economy by creating the next generation of American industrial jobs and treating clean energy as an economic and security mandate to rebuild America." 

The Institute for Local Self Reliance (ILSR) at www.ilsr.org promotes sustainable communities and sustainable economic development. One project of ILSR is Big Box Toolkit which provides resources for stopping big-box retail development in your community and for promoting locally-owned businesses. The New Rules Project of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance suggests new rules that support human control of politics and economics. Wakeup WalMart.com at www.wakeupwalmart.com/ is an organization that wants to change Wal-Mart. They want to change its policies on wages, worker rights, employee health care, impact on communities, unions and others.

Wal*Mart Watch at walmartwatch.com maintains a nationwide public education campaign to challenge the world’s largest retailer to become a better employer, neighbor, and corporate citizen.
