First UU is a great place for middle and high school youth
We have a large and active group of teens and middle schoolers who are enthusiastic about Sunday mornings. There is a variety of programming. You can find out more about the groups and how to register at the Religious Education Page.

- Finding out about sexuality- OWL or Our Whole Lives. One group for 8th graders and another for grades 10-12.
- Connect with other high school youth around meaningful music - High School Covenant Group.
- Rites of Passage Program for 9th Graders - Coming Of Age
Other Great First UU Experiences
High School Justice Trip – High School teens are eligible to take a life-changing journey in the summer. In June 2010 a group of 17 youth and 9 adults went to New Orleans to help with the rebuilding. In June 2012 the group attended our first ever Justice General Assembly and work with immigrants and immigrant rights groups in Arizona. In the Spring of 2013 the group traveled to Transylvania, the site of Unitarian churchs that date back several hundred years, and to our Partner Church in Bolon, Romania. Last summer, our teens participated in a service project to address Reproductive Justice right here in Columbus, Ohio. Sign up when your register for Religious Education.
Youth Groups – Meets the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month at 12:30pm for lunch, hanging out, fun, social justice projects and service to the congregation. They frequently travel to swim, bowl or to an entertainment event. The groups usually lunch together and then divide into senior high and middle school groups. Sign up using the youth/teen registration form.
Dinner with the Ministers for High School Seniors - High School seniors join the ministers periodically throughout the year to create a meal together and explore what lies ahead for them after they leave school. Sign up when you register for Religious Exploration.
Youth CONferences - Three or four conferences are offered each year that gather about 100 youth from around the district at a congregation for a weekend of being UU in a place where it's safe. Our youth so often are the only UU at their school. They often feel pressured to hide their true selves to get along. For many these gatherings are essential. Join the FaceBook group to keep up with the community and the CONs - OMD YAC.
Worship – Though most teens prefer Religious Exploration, on Sunday mornings it is not unusual to see teenagers in the worship service – in the pews, in the choir or playing an instrument. You can find out more about our choirs on the Music Page. Training as a Worship Coordinator is open to teenagers. Indicate your interest in these options when you register for Religious Exploration.
Adult Enrichment Programs – All our programming is open to teens. A few courses will be co-led by both teens and adults. Check the website often for new courses.
