We have a large and active group of teens and middle schoolers who are enthusiastic about Sunday mornings at 11 am. There is a variety of programming. You can find out more about the groups and how to register at the Sunday School Page.
They include:
• Finding out about other religions for 6th - 8th Graders - Neighboring Faiths • Finding out about sexuality- OWL or Our Whole Lives. One group for 8th graders and another for grades 10-12. • Role Play and Theater Games for 9-12th Graders - Practice, Role Play and Being. • Connect with other older 11th and 12th graders - Covenant Group • Rites of Passage Program for 9th Graders - Coming Of Age
Other Great First UU Experiences
High School Justice Adventure – Teens in 9th grade and up and at least age 14 by June 1, 2010 are eligible to take a life-changing journey to work with middle school youth in New Orleans. Read about the experiences of another UU youth group who worked with the UUSC and Rethink New Orleans Schools project. We can expect that our experiences will be very similar. Sign up using the youth/teen registration form.
"The religious response to human suffering is to stand on the side of love...Those of us who were in New Orleans now understand that the religious response to events like this one is to stand with the victims of injustice—to understand ourselves as inextricably and intimately connected to those who suffer."
Middle School Youth Group – Meets twice a month for lunch, hanging out, fun, social justice projects and service to the congregation. They frequently travel to swim, bowl or to an entertainment event. Sign up using the youth/teen registration form.
Youth Adult Steering Committee (YASC) – Representatives are elected each fall and serve from January through the end of the year to plan activities and represent teens on the Board of Trustees and Religious Education Council. Each group has a representative. Please contact your representative if you have questions, concerns or ideas.
Worship – Though most teens prefer Sunday School, on Sunday mornings it is not unusual to see teenagers in the worship service – in the pews, in the choir, playing an instrument and on the chancel. You can find out more about our choirs on the Music Page. Training as a Worship Coordinator is open to teenagers. Indicate your interest in these options through the youth/teen registration form.
Adult Enrichment Programs – All our programming is open to teens. A few courses will be co-led by both teens and adults. Check the website often for new courses.
Sunday School Volunteer – Volunteer positions in Sunday School are open to teens. Look through the list of classes on the Sunday School Page to find a position that suits you. Then sign up on the Volunteer Form.
Social Justice Committee, Caring Committee, Membership Committee, Arts and Space Committee, Greeters, Green Team and many more – would love to have your skills and time. Just note your interest on the youth/teen registration form.
