THE FIRST UU CHURCH OF COLUMBUS, OHIO has developed a four year program to support the Fellowship of Camupus Unitarian Universalists (FOCUUS) at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio and eventually other UU campus ministries in the Columbus area.
FOCUUS has been meeting weekly as an official OSU student organization. There are more than 30 young adults on the communication list with several non-student young adults attending the Monday night meetings. The First Church ministers and the DRE have been providing professional support for worship, covenant groups and other programming when their schedules allow. Chalice lighter monies will initially supplement monies from First Church.
The Initiative will provide a Campus Chaplain who will
- Minister to the members of FOCUUS
- Provide formal and informal training to student leaders
- Model meaningful worship
- Help will program planning and implementation
- Assist other UU campus ministry projects in the area
- Coordinate with other campus ministries and interfaith ministry networks
- Develop a model of campus-congregational partnership that can be useful elsewhere within and beyond the the Ohio Meadville District.
